Obituary
Virgil “Dave” David Horton, age 91, of Merkel passed away on April 26, 2023 in the hospital at Abilene.
Virgil “Dave” David Horton was born in Compere, TX to Hollis and Leatha Horton on December 31, 1931. He graduated from Merkel High School and attended Draughns Business School. He married Geneva Welch Bell on October 22, 1954 in Abilene. He worked as a terminal manager for ICX Trucking for 25 years. He decided to go into business for himself and bought Phoenix Generator. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army until he was discharged.
Virgil is preceded in death by daughters Cathy Coleman and Pamelia Jo Horton, also by one grandson Andy Wayne Coleman.
Virgil is survived by three sisters: Lorene Wills, Melba Glasscock, Jo Ann West; nieces: Lisa Wills, Debbie Cullar, Anita Myatt, and Sandy Woods; nephews: Mike Wills, Brian Wills, Allan Glasscock, David Glasscock, Chuck West, Stephen West, and Dan Boone, also by numerous great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Merkel First United Methodist Church and Wounded Warrior Project.
Family will have a private service.
