Victor Lee Casper

Victor Lee Casper, 81, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on June 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 12, 1944, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Victor was the son of the late Monsour and Sadie George Casper. Throughout his life, he was known for his unwavering faith, strong work ethic, generous heart, and deep love for his family and friends.

Victor proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he met the love of his life, Donna Peterson Casper. Their love story began during his military service and blossomed into a beautiful marriage on June 1, 1968. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion, sharing 58 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventures, and treasured memories. A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Merkel, Victor found great joy in serving others. For six years, he lovingly prepared breakfast for the children’s church, a ministry that held a special place in his heart. He delighted in spending time with the children and considered serving them one of life’s greatest blessings.

Victor worked at Carson’s Supermarket before returning to his true calling behind the wheel of a truck. He later retired from Sweetwater Steel, where he earned the respect and friendship of many coworkers throughout the years.

An avid fisherman and lover of the outdoors, Victor appreciated life’s simple pleasures. Yet nothing brought him greater happiness than being with his family. He was a proud and devoted Pawpaw who rarely missed an opportunity to attend a game, school event, performance, or celebration. His grandchildren knew they could always count on seeing him in the stands, cheering them on with pride and encouragement.

Victor never met a stranger. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome and valued. His warm smile, infectious laugh, and compassionate spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He loved road trips, especially when accompanied by his trusted maps and the people he loved most. For Victor, the destination was never as important as the journey and the memories made along the way.

Above all else, Victor cherished his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, caring brother, loyal friend, and faithful servant of God. His life was a beautiful example of kindness, humility, and unconditional love.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Donna Casper; his son, David Casper and wife Robin; his daughter, Brandy Porter and husband Keith; his grandchildren, Justin Ray and wife Alisha, Brookelyn Casper, Kyla Porter, Harley Casper, and Kinley Corley; his great-grandchildren, Nolan and Sonny Ray; his brothers, Dr. Edmund Casper and wife Mary Colleen, and James Casper; niece Stacy Tastad and husband Chris; niece Heather Peterson; nephews Chad and Mikel Peterson; and lifelong friends Jerry and Joyce Sanders.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Dr. Joseph Casper, Thomas Casper, Freda Rusiecki, and Madeline Churilla; his in-laws, Lewis and Doris Peterson; his sisters-in-law, Janie and Sandy Peterson and his brothers-in-law, Butch, Robert, and Gary Peterson.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, June 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel. A memorial service celebrating Victor’s life will be held Thursday, June 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road in Abilene, with Chad King officiating.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Big Country and Willowcreek Nursing Home for the compassion, dignity, and exceptional care they provided to Victor. Your kindness and support brought comfort not only to him, but to our entire family, and for that we will be forever grateful.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that Victor’s faith has become sight. His legacy of love, kindness, service, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
