Tony Don Watson, 52, of Merkel, passed away on May 24, 2025 in Abilene after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Tony was born in Coleman, Texas to Sandra Slate Watson and Ira Stanley Watson on October 22, 1972. He went to school in Abilene and San Marcos. He married Cheryl Buffington on February 11, 2006 in Abilene, Texas. Tony had several careers over his lifetime, including HEB, Chinese Kitchen, Cactus Moon, Aabco Transmissions, and FWP Pool Supplies in The Woodlands, Texas. He also operated TJ’s Barbecue in Coleman, Texas, as well as several different delivery routes. His passion was fireworks, also working at American Fireworks in Pinehurst and running his own stands.
Tony loved hanging out with friends and family, often barbecuing for them. Those lucky enough, can testify that no one smoked a brisket quite like he did! Tony loved fishing and being on the water, and the color blue. The family is asking friends and loved ones to wear blue on Thursday to help us celebrate his life.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, beloved wife, Cheryl, and younger brother, Bebo Watson.
Tony is survived by his son, Jordan Watson (Carrie), bonus daughters, Allison Neal (Brad) and April Buffington, sister, Amy Ash (Lewis), parents, Sandra and Stanley Watson, many grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one great nephew.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Watson, Welton Watson Jr, Robert Corley, Welton Watson III, Brad Neal and Cody Ash.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Starbuck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Starbuck Funeral Home with Betty Buffington officiating. Private burial at Compere Cemetery to follow. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
