Ruth Marie Tipton, 90, of Abilene passed away peacefully at Lyndale Memory Care on March 11, 2021. She was born to Cecil and Ruth (Hughes) Stevens in Abilene on April 10, 1930. Ruth graduated from Noodle High School in 1947 and attended Hardin Simmons University. She retired from WTU, where she worked as a bookkeeper for over 30 years. In 1952 she married C.E. (Edgar) Tipton and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his death in 2009. Ruth was a member of the Merkel Community Birthday Club and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed painting still life and portraits, working in her yard, taking care of her trees, and her daily walks. Her and Edgar enjoyed to play golf together. Ruth was an identical twin. Her and Ruby talked every day. She and Edgar had three cats through the years: Lucy, Patches, and Lacy. They had one dog Scooter. Survivors include her nieces Jody Reeder of Abilene and Patti Tilbrook of Abilene; nephews Terry Stevens of Dripping Springs, Bobby Stevens of Dripping Springs, Joe Stevens of Dripping Springs and Ryan Stevens of Austin. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband C.E. (Edgar) Tipton; brother Calvin Stevens; sister Ruby Toombs; and her parents. Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
