Roxie Williams

Roxie Florine Williams, 76, of Merkel, gained her wings on May 1, 2023 in Abilene, Texas.

Roxie was born in Noodle, Texas to Ernest and Elmida Collier on January 16, 1947. She went to Merkel High School in Merkel, Texas. She married Doyle Glenn Vinson they were married for 16 years. During that time, she had two children, David Glenn Vinson, and Jerry Wayne Vinson. She got remarried to Shirley (Rusty) Lee Williams on January 1, 1982 in Merkel, Texas. She worked multiple jobs throughout her years including a bus driver and cook for the cafeteria for Trent ISD. Then a cook at Poly’s Restaurant for a few years. She finished out working years as a waitress at the Merkel Truck Stop for many years and retired in 1995 and becoming a full-time mom and memaw. She participated in the Ranch House Fellowship Cowboy Church before she became ill.

Jerry & David were the light of her life. Roxie enjoyed many things throughout her life. When she was young, she loved hunting and fishing with a cane pole. Roxie loved sports and was on a Women’s Adult Softball team. She loved the outdoors, sitting in the front yard enjoying the sounds of nature while watching birds, specifically hummingbirds with her husband, kids, and grandchildren. Over the years, crafting and baking especially for loved ones that put in special request for holidays. Roxie also loved reading the Word of God. Once her grandchildren were born, she would watch them any time she could during her days, she would go to yards sales with her grandchildren to always find that great deal. Roxie loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all her heart. She made sure that every day they knew how much she loved them. She also made sure they knew that a storm was coming our way.

Roxie was preceded in death by her Parents: Ernest and Elmida Collier, Spouse: Shirley “Rusty” Williams, Son: David Vinson, Brothers: Carl, Jerry, Leroy, Junior, F.A (Collier) & Tuffy (Hunter), Sisters: Ruth Goodman, Edith Vinson, Ruthie Phillips (Collier), Ann Williams, Mary Jowers, & Connie Murphy (Henderson).

Survivors include sons: Jerry Wayne Vinson and wife Sandra of Merkel and Christopher Taylor and wife Laurie of Arkansas. Brothers: Willie Collier and wife Lucy of Trent, James Collier and wife Debbie of Washington. Sisters: Bessie Hellums and husband Larry of Merkel, Betty Goodman of Graham. Grandchildren: Dustina Claxton and husband Colton of Merkel, Justin Stafford and wife Victoria of Denham Springs, Louisiana. Morgan Vinson of Clyde, Cydney, Logan, Cody, Brendan Taylor of Arkansas. Great Grandchildren: Brylea and Haygen Aaron of Clyde, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Justin Stafford, Colton Claxton, Randy Davis, Larry Hellums, Derek Tuley, Dusty Barnhill.

Visitation will be at 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday May 4, 2023 at the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel 1022 N. 2nd Merkel, Texas 79536.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday May 5, 2023 at the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with Dewey Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Family Funeral Home.
