Peggy Burlene Gibson

Peggy Bond Gibson, 89, of Merkel, TX, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in Lubbock, TX.

Peggy was born in Merkel, TX to Lenora (Wilburn) and Burlie Bond on October 16, 1935. She went to school at Merkel. She graduated from Merkel High School in 1954 and Hardin Simmons University in 1957. She married the love of her life, Jerry Gibson, on September 29, 1956, in Merkel, TX. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006. She worked for Paymaster Oil Mill, for 20 years, and she retired from the Merkel Independent School District, after 37 years where she worked as a teacher and administrator. She was an active member of the Merkel First Baptist Church for many years, where she taught Sunday School and served on multiple committees.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Gibson, father Burly Bond, mother Lenora Bond and brother Randy Bond. 

Peggy is survived by her son Jay Gibson and wife Ann of Lubbock, TX and granddaughter Katy Gibson of Lubbock, TX.

Visitation will be Monday, December 2nd, 2024 from 5 to 7pm, at Starbuck Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, at Rose Hill Cemetery, with Jackie Reynolds officiating. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
