Mary Jocille Brady Obituary

Mary Jocille Brady, born on January 19, 1939 in Merkel, Texas to Emma and Irven Thompson. She died peacefully with her family at her side on October 9, 2024. Marrying the love of her life John Brady on August 31, 1960. They were married 62 years before John was called home to heaven. Jocille was blessed to have four children, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Jocille was a Merkel High School Valedictorian graduate who also received her bachelor's degree from McMurry University. Jocille spent all of her life as a proud Merkel Badger. She also enjoyed her career as the high school math teacher in Trent & Merkel until she retired.

Jocille was very active in her home parish, Our Mother of Mercy Church in Merkel, TX. She played the organ for the church for 22 years, led countless RCIA students to their own confirmation, and helped out in any way that she could in order to give back to the church. If you knew Jocille, you knew that you were welcomed in her home. She was famous for her roast dinners, angel food cake, and pies. Each of her family knew they were loved by her every single day of her life. Jocille made sure to help organize and attend yearly family reunions with the Riney family. Nothing in this world brought her more joy than her family and her faith.

Jocille was preceded in her death by her parents Irven and Emma Thompson, and her dear husband John Brady. Jocille is survived by her four children: Mike (Vicki) Brady of Abilene, TX, their two children Rebecca (Eric) Armstrong, Parker (Erika) Brady; Christi (Ron) Houghton of Merkel, TX, and their two children Brittany and Kaci Houghton; Tim (Cindy) Brady of Belton, TX, and their three children Andy (Jordan) Brady, Sandy (Jason) Knight, Erica (Josh) Hoffmann; Donny (Donna) Brady of Albuquerque, NM, and their daughter Abigail Brady. Jocille better known as Memaw, is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Emma, Beau, Frank, John, Birdie, Anna, Jocie, and Benjamin.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Merkel, TX. Funeral services will be Monday, October 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Donations can be made to Merkel Cemetery Association or Merkel Historical Museum in honor of Jocille.
