Martina Denny Best

Martina Denny Best, 92 passed away Monday, August 29, 2022 in a local nursing home. She was born April 17, 1930 in Comanche County, Texas to Lester Boyd and Jewell (Hillard) Denny. Martina married the love of her life, Carol Best, on August 5, 1950 together they had 4 sons and were married for 67 years before his passing. Upon graduating from Sidney High School Martina attended nursing school. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Abilene State School for a total of 15 years. Martina is survived by her sons Tommy Best and his wife Phyllis of Jacksboro, and Steve Best and his wife Becky of Merkel; five grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Martina was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carol Best; two sons Gary and Paul; and brother Charley Denny. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Merkel Church of Christ. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00PM before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Alpha Omega Hospice or to Rose Hill Cemetery, 201 Edwards, Merkel, TX 79536.
