Margaret “Louise” Reeves, 84, of New Braunfels, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2025.
Louise was born on August 4, 1940, in Poteet, Texas, to W. O. Henderson and Elmedia Hunter. She moved to Merkel, Texas, in 1960, where she married James Wallace Doan, and together they raised two children, Roger Dean and Cynthia “Cindy” Ann.
In the early 1970s, Louise began her career as a seamstress at Aileen’s Sewing Factory in Abilene. After the plant closed, she transitioned to working at the Wylie Truck Stop in Merkel as a waitress, sharing her humor and beautiful smile with patrons for 13 years. In 1989, Louise relocated to Euless, Texas, where she continued her restaurant career at Hobbs Restaurants at DFW Airport. She later joined Sam’s Club Corporation in 2001, where she worked until her retirement in 2020.
Following her retirement, Louise moved to Bandera, Texas, to care for her daughter Cindy, who had been battling cancer for over ten years. After Cindy’s untimely death in 2021, Louise moved to New Braunfels to live with her granddaughter, Stacy Lynn, and her husband Dallas Burrow, at their home along the Guadalupe River. Louise was also blessed to spend time with her great-grandchildren, Tex and Dakota Lynn, whom she loved endlessly.
Affectionately known as “MeMaw” by her grandchildren, Louise adored her family and had a special gift for making new friends wherever she went. During her final years, she was entertained by a community of songwriters, a testament to her warm and welcoming nature. She was an active member of Transforming Truth Ministries on Sundays.
Louise will be remembered for her smile, her laughter, and her boundless kindness. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Doan Bryant, stepdaughter Brenda Hair, step-grandson Ricky Hair, and her siblings: Mary, Rachey (Anne), Jerry, Carl, Connie, Roxie, Tootsie, LeRoy, F.A., Ernest Jr., Betty, James, and Tuffy.
She is survived by her son, Roger D. Doan; brothers William Collier and James; sisters Bessie and Ruth; grandchildren Stacy Lynn and Dallas Burrow, Pam Hair, and Zach Riggle; great-grandchildren William Washington Burrow III and Dakota Lynn Burrow, grand-niece Danielle “Dan Dan” Murphy; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas. All are welcome to attend. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. Memorials can be sent to Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, Texas.
