Luann Rogers of Merkel, Texas entered eternity on Friday, December 5, 2025 in Abilene, Texas. She was 63 years old.
Luann was born to Weldon Ray and Frary Lee (Hardgrave) Stewart at Mineral Wells in Palo Pinto County, Texas on December 26, 1961, the first of five children. She grew up in south Austin, attending Austin public schools from first through twelfth grades, graduating from David Crocket High School in December of 1979. Luann later attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was trained as a full-charge bookkeeper while working for Howard Systems Corporation in Austin, an occupation she continued throughout her life, later working for Victoria Christian School and the City of Victoria, Texas. She concluded her professional career by retiring in 2023 after ten years’ service in the business office at Woodward Academy in College Park, Georgia.
Luann married Dave Rogers on May 30, 1980 in Austin, Texas, and together they reared two daughters and a son. A homeschooling mom during many of their school years, she treasured the time she was able to be at home with them. Faith in Christ was the central theme of Luann’s life, and she worked diligently at sharing her faith with her family and others. In later years, one of her great joys was teaching classes for young preachers’ wives in the Georgia School of Preaching and Biblical Studies. She delighted in teaching both ladies’ bible studies and children’s bible classes, and speaking for Christian women’s retreats, workshops, and lectureships. Luann authored and published several excellent bible study books, and was a constant source of encouragement for her preacher/husband.
Luann was preceded in death by her father, Weldon R. Stewart, and by two stillborn children. She is survived by her husband, Dave Rogers of Merkel, TX; two daughters, Emily Hopkins (husband Jess) of Oplin, TX and Katherine Neal (husband Danny) of Hurst, TX; one son, Benjamin Rogers of Buda, TX; her mother, Lee Stewart of Austin, TX; two brothers, Jeff and David Stewart; a sister, Heather Jichi; grandchildren Boris Hopkins (wife Annabelle), Sorrel Hopkins, Pecos Hopkins, and Hudson Neal; an expected great-grandchild; six nieces and three nephews, and a host of greatly treasured brothers and sisters in Christ.
Visitation is set for Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel. A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Merkel Church of Christ building, with Foy Forehand and Roy Meyer officiating. A brief graveside service will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
