Leonard (Len) Norris Boden, born August 14, 1934, the only son of O.B. Boden and Lois Boden, passed away Monday, August 26th 2024.
Len was an Air Force veteran, radio announcer and after being honorably discharged continued his career as a DJ in different states and all across Texas, most notably WBAP in the DFW metropolis. He decided to continue his education and attended TCJC, ASU and 3 seminaries. Ultimately his creative side led him to become a potter and he traveled extensively across the country selling his creations. Years later he discovered a love of leather and boot making. After a five-year apprenticeship under James Leddy he struck out on his own and in 1981 opened his custom boot shop in Sweetwater Tx. He spent the next three decades making and repairing boots for many satisfied customers all the while keeping his voice in radio production. Len was also an ordained minister while a boot maker. He spent 16 of his years being both Chaplain and Mentor at the French Robertson Unit in Hamby. He was forced to retire from both when he began to lose his eyesight.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Saundra E Boden, one son Rik Boden and his wife Misty of Abilene, one daughter Regan Boden of Abilene, one grandson Joshua Boden of Omaha NE, one great-granddaughter Luna Boden also of Omaha, NE and one granddaughter Brenna R Daniels of Abilene.
Visitation will be Friday August 30th from 6-8 PM at Starbucks Funeral Home in Merkel. Funeral services will be Saturday August 31st at 2 PM in the Starbucks Chapel in Merkel with burial following at Rose Cemetery.
