Leon Perez "Rico" Duran

Leon “Rico” Perez Duran, age 80, passed away on March 9, 2022 in Sweetwater. He was born on April 11, 1941 in Merkel, TX to Guadalupe Duran and Maria (Perez) Duran. 

Rico was a hardworking man, who loved his family and cherished spending time with them. He married Reynalda (Lara) Duran on July 12, 1998 in San Antonio, TX. He proudly served our county in the United States Marine Corp. Rico worked for Xerox in Fort Worth as a Copier Tech for over 20 years before retiring. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, watching old war movies, and loved eating hamburgers. He left his family many great memories and will be dearly missed.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife: Reynalda Duran of Sweetwater; son: Richard Duran of Fort Worth; daughters: Dawn Calbillo of Midland and April Mandujano and husband Lupe of Grand Prairie, TX; step-sons: Eleazar Martinez and wife Ruth of Las Vegas, NV and Reynaldo Martinez and wife Nelly of Ft. Worth; and step-daughter: Linda Evette and husband Shane of Lindale. TX; eight grandchildren: Jessica Calbillo, Randy Duran, Kirsten Duran, Madison Villarreal, Gabriel Duran, Dallas Duran, Christian Willeford and Jordian Willeford; three great-grandchildren: Aiden Orosco, Jeremias Duran and Mia Moreno; brothers: Andy Melendez and Eulalio Melendez, both of Sweetwater; sisters: Juanita Martinez and husband Andres of Abilene, Mary Luz of Abilene, Gloria Edgar and husband Donald of Houston,  and Yolanda Sneed of West Palm Beach, FL, also numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Rico was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Henry Duran and one sister: Rebecca Salinas. 

Visitation with the family will be held from 5pm to 7pm, Monday, March 14, 2022 at Starbuck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Starbuck Funeral Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Merkel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Starbuck Funeral Home.
