LeRoy Goodgion Obituary

LeRoy Lynn Goodgion, 76, of Tye, Texas, passed away on May 24, 2024 at his home in Tye.

LeRoy was born in Floydada, Texas to Hazel Virginia “Galloway” Goodgion and Howard Edward Goodgion. He attended Abilene High School and joined the Navy where he served in Vietnam. After returning home, he met and married Mari Luanne “Donaldson” Goodgion in Abilene, Texas on June 13, 1969. Luanne was the love of his life and they remained together until her passing on April 21, 2016. LeRoy and Luanne lived their entire lives in Tye and were preceded in death by 6 generations of Tye ancestors.

LeRoy owned and operated Goodgion Electric for over 30 years where he employed both his son-in-law and grandson. LeRoy’s life revolved around his electrical job and the many friends, clients and co-workers that he met throughout the years.

LeRoy enjoyed karate and earned his black belt while learning the martial arts with his three grandsons. He met his good friend and instructor, Grand Master James Cox there and they remained friends until his passing.

LeRoy was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife Luanne Goodgion, his brother, Dannie Carl Goodgion, his sister Kay Lanford and his son Howard Gregory Goodgion.

LeRoy is survived by his sister Jo Moore and husband Paul Moore of Tye, Tx. His daughter Michelle Blessing and husband William Blessing of Tye, Tx. His grandson Alex Cerda, wife Sarah and their two children Kennedy and Lincoln. His grandson Aaron Cerda and his two children Faith and Apollo. His grandson Tony Blessing and his youngest grandson Aiyden Blessing of Tye, Tx. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Bronda Sue Goodgion of Merkel, Tx. There are also many friends who he considered family and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday May 30th at 1:00pm at the Tye Cemetery with Reverend David Sims of Victory Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tye Cemetery Organization – PO Box 64, Tye, TX  79563.
