Larry Windham Obituary

Larry Wayne Windham was born in Merkel, Texas, on June 7, 1944, to Buddy and Orene Windham. He was raised in Merkel and graduated from Merkel High School. On June 4, 1965, Larry married the love of his life, Gloria Doan. Shortly after, they moved to Pecos, where Larry began working for Jack and Sis Chenault at Gibson’s. That opportunity grew into a lifelong career spanning more than 60 years including becoming the owner of the store, a position he held for over a decade.  After selling the store in 2010, Larry enjoyed a brief “retirement” of about a week before returning to work — right back at the same store he loved so much.

Larry loved hunting, watching and playing all sports, Gibson's, the people of Pecos and most of all his family.  His kindness, steady nature, and willingness to help anyone without complaint will never be forgotten.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Orene Windham, four sisters, Marlene, Carolyn, Bobbye, Kathy and brother Alfred Charles.

Larry is survived by his wife Gloria Windham; Children, Tim and Jamie, Lance and Amanda, Keith and Joye, Chad and Kimberly, and Tami and Joel; Grandchildren, Bre'Ann and Keilyn, Dustin and Ashley, Tatum and Errett, Jared and Payton, Dante, Brennah, Tieranny and Seth, Taryn, Caleb, Talyssa and Keller;  Great Grandchildren, Yara, Paisley, Jackson, Wynndham, Kodi, Kayce and Luxlynn; sister, Linda

Memorials may be made in his name to Pecos Eagles Athletic Booster Club, Pecos Little League, Trans Pecos Dusty Paws Recue, West of The Pecos Museum, or a charity of your choice.

The family of Larry Windham would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his work family, customers at Gibson's, and to all the people of Pecos for their love and support.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Reeves County Civic Center in Pecos, Texas.

Graveside services will follow on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 11 a.m., at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.
