Larry Burks

Larry Leon Burks Sr., 75, of Merkel, TX passed away on Friday January 27, 2023 at his residence. He was born on January 11, 1948 in Jayton, TX to Chester Burks and Donna (Grice) Carter.

Larry graduated from Sweetwater Texas High School in 1966 and was also a Navy Veteran. He worked at World Color Press as a printer for 25 years and an OTR truck driver for 26 years. He enjoyed model airplanes, studying gravity and wormholes. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. Most importantly was his family. He was a selfless man and found pleasure in giving his all to his family. His greatest pride was his grandchildren and he strived to leave a legacy for them to remember him by.

Larry is survived by sons: Larry Burks Jr. of Austin, TX and William Burks of Helena, MT; daughters: Carla Perry of Merkel, TX, Lisa Johnson-Marshall and husband Alphonso of Abilene, TX and Mandrea Burks of Mt. Vernon, IL; grandchildren: Justin and Zachary Sellers, Jessica Perry, Unikia Johnson, Ashley, Brandi and Coty Chamberlain, Nachole and Shane Jones; great-grandchildren: Leon and Lyla Sellers, Paris Johnson, Zaelynn Sellers, Silas Chamberlain, Brayden and Landen Jones, Dasney Dodson, and Alethea and Kathleen Pyron; two brothers: Mark Taylor and wife Anita of Bedford, TX and Lynn Carter of Austin, TX and sister Cathy Page of Abilene, TX, along with three nephews and one niece.

Larry is preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister Vickie Taylor.

Visitation will be Friday February 3, 2023 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM with services to follow at 1:00 PM at the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
