Kenneth "Roy" Johnson

Kenneth “Roy” Johnson, 60, of Merkel, Texas passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Abilene, Texas.

Roy was born in Winters, Texas to Larry Johnson and Beverly Hallford on January 24, 1965. He graduated from Merkel High School in 1983. He then graduated from college at Texas Tech University. He was a Texas Game Warden from 1997 to 2018 and was named outstanding cadet for his Game Warden Academy class of 1997. He loved taking his kids hunting but he preferred fishing over hunting. When Roy was not working he spent his time with his family, fishing, going to Port Aransas and playing World of Warcraft.

Roy was preceded in death by fathers Otis Davis and Larry Johnson, little brother Larry Glenn, and grandparents Joyce and Ted Hallford.

Roy is survived by his wife Melissa Johnson of Merkel, Tx; son Brandon Johnson with wife Kelsey and grandson Tucker of Merkel, Tx; daughter Kelcey Bryan and husband JT of Fort Worth, Tx; mother Beverly Davis of Trent, TX; brother Wayne Johnson and wife Lesa of Ballinger, Tx; sister Yvonne Chaney and husband Don of Amarillo, Tx; along with many nieces/great nieces and nephews/great nephews, and best friend James Cummings.

A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Trent United Methodist Church. The family would like to welcome everyone to come and share memories and stories of Roy’s life.
