Kenneth Lee Hays, 80, of Merkel passed away on November 11, 2024.
Kenneth Lee Hays was born in Merkel, Texas to Paxton and Mary Lou Hays on April 30, 1944. He went to school in Merkel and graduated from Merkel High School. He married Vickie Teaff on January 30th of 1965 in Tye, Texas. He worked as a self employed welder before becoming a construction superintendent for Patterson Drilling where he worked up until retirement on April 2, 2012. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, and during retirement he loved to travel and support his family by attending as many of the grandchildren’s events as possible. He was known for his love of taking sunset photos everyday and sharing on social media.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents Paxton and Mary Lou Hays of Merkel.
Kenneth is survived by his spouse, Vickie Teaff Hays; Children: Tommy and Sheila Hays of Brock, Texas, Lynn and Misti Hays of Merkel, Texas; Sister, Carla and John Price of Mansfield, Texas; Grandchildren: Browmyn and Jonathan Powell of Stephenville, Linsey and Demetri Goodson of Brock, Jaiton Hays of Merkel and Kinzi and Hunter Petty of Merkel; Great Grandchildren: Paxton Powell, Kayson Hays, Major Goodson, Colette Powell, Olivia Goodson, Selah Powell, Maya Goodson and Hays Petty.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Hays, Lynn Hays, Jaiton Hays, Demetri Goodson, Jonathan Powell and Hunter Petty.
Honorary Pallbearers are John Price, James Hughes, Gaylon Boone, Steve Shugart, Don Wilson and Jerry West.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday November 13, 2024 at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas on Thursday November 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with Mac Sipe officiating. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the Merkel Cemetery Association.
