Kenneth Edward Elliott, 89, of Merkel, TX., passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Merkel, TX.
Kenneth Edward Elliott (Kenny) was born in Graham, TX., to Edward Richard Elliott (Papa) and Mamie Myrle Mayo Elliott (Mama Myrle) on April 28, 1936.
Kenny graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. He received a BA from Hardin-Simmons University in 1965.
Kenny married Bobbye Windham on June 15, 1956. They had three children, Cindy, Scott and Brad.
He was a teacher and taught science and math for many years. In 1974, he moved his family to Merkel, TX., and purchased Hardy Food Store. He renamed the store Handy Food Store. After selling the store he went back to teaching at Merkel ISD. After his retirement from Merkel ISD, he became a contract meter reader for Taylor Electric Co-op. Kenny was an avid hunter and instilled the love of hunting in his boys, Scott and Brad. He eventually retired altogether and filled his days with his passion for hunting, classic cars, swap meets and driving his cherished cars in parades.
Kenny was preceded in death by his son Bradley Wayne Elliott, his parents, sister Veta Young, sister Judy Carol Elliott Killough and stepmom Martha Elliott (Mama Mart).
Kenny is survived by his daughter, Cindy Adams (Wes) of San Angelo, TX., and his son, Scott Elliott (Cindy) of Trent, TX. Grandsons, Colby Watts and family of Merkel, TX., Bradley Elliott and family of Sugar Land, TX. and Garrett Elliott and family of Trent, TX. His brother, Ricky Elliott and family, his sister, Doreen Reedy and family, his sister Debbie Elliott and family and his sister Denise Kisinger and family. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy Young, Rod Young, Brad Dabbert, Kevin Dorton, Colby Watts, Bradley Elliott and Garrett Elliott.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home, 1022 N. 2nd, Merkel, TX.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Merkel, TX., with Reverend Rhonda Greenwood officiating. Burial will follow at White Church Cemetery in Mulberry Canyon. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
A lunch for the family will be provided at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 12:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to White Church Cemetery.
