Baron “Keith” Greenwood of Merkel, Texas went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2024. He was born on December 31, 1942 to Hillard and Fleeta Oletha (Rhodes) Greenwood in Maud, Oklahoma, of Potawatomi County. Keith grew up in Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma State University. He moved to Boerne, Texas and owned and operated haul trucks. He then moved to Midland, Texas where he opened a truck repair shop and later he taught Automotive and Diesel Mechanics at Midland College. After that he went to work in the oil field as a Pump mechanic working for Fleet Cementers, and retired January 1, 2007. Keith never met a stranger and enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends, hunting, gunsmithing, and he was an avid motorcyclist until his health wouldn’t allow him to continue riding.
Keith married his wife, Rhonda on May 28, 1993 and they had a large, blended family. Keith had two sons: James Keith Greenwood (and wife, Michelle) of Round Rock, Texas and Tracy Baron Greenwood (and partner Tammy) of Midland, Texas. James gave him two grandchildren: Ashley Moshell (and husband, Ross) and Scott Greenwood (and wife, Christina). They provided Keith with six great-grandsons (three each) which he was very proud of. Keith also had two stepdaughters: Shonna Garcia of Midland, Texas and Erica Moran of Merkel, Texas and stepson: Chad Self (and wife, Heather) of Conroe, Texas. Those children provided him with twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He never differentiated between any of his children and grandchildren, he loved them all.
He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and when he moved to Merkel he became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Merkel, where he taught Sunday School and was an active participant with the United Methodist Men.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife and the mother of his sons, Betty.
The family would like to thank Brenda Jowers for the dedicated, compassionate, and faithful care she provided for Keith for the past six years. He could not have gotten better care; she is the best! The family would also like to thank Kinder Hearts Hospice for everything they have done. Keith is now resting in even better hands, the hands of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Merkel on Saturday December 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
