Karen Elizabeth Monreal passed away suddenly on Monday March 6, 2023 in Abilene, Texas.
Karen was born in Cherry Point, NC to Gayle Gustafson Atkins and Troy Lee Pearson on July 19, 1954.
She is preceded in death by her mother Gayle Atkins, her father Troy Pearson, and her brother Troy “Sonny” Pearson.
She is survived by her son Ron “Andy” Monreal and his partner Molly Bryant, two granddaughters Natalee and Kadence, her stepfather Don Atkins and wife Mary. Karen was the oldest, followed by surviving sisters Jan Gold and Leslie Martin (and husband Daniel), brother Mike Pearson (and wife Leslie) and step siblings Brenda Atkins, Mike Atkins, Wayne Atkins, and Sharon and Paul Hyduke and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
We remember Karen’s smile, sense of humor, easy and laid back ‘roll with it’ personality, and uncanny ability to recall any historical fact or family memory in a moment’s notice. She had a passion for reading, living in the country, and enjoying the nature around her brought her peace. We were fortunate to share adventures with her moving around the country as kids and vacations as adults to London, Paris, Italy, Cape Cod, and New Orleans to name a few. We were fortunate to share so many laughs and great times together.
The family will hold a private remembrance in the future, and there will not be a public funeral.
To honor Karen’s memory, please recall a moment in time with her, take a walk in nature, and grab a book and enjoy the quiet time immersing yourself in a story. She was so loved and will be very missed.
