Joseph Dean Castillo

Joseph Dean “Big Joe” Castillo, age 59, passed from this life on August 29, 2021 at his residence in Merkel, TX. He was born on May 22, 1962 to Frank D. Castillo and Ruth (Guevara) Castillo. He was a self-employed flooring contractor.

Joseph was not only an extremely hard worker, he took the knowledge he had learned from his dad and mentored many younger kids on how to properly lay flooring.  He devoted his time to helping many people and even took the role of caring for his mom and siblings, after his father’s passing. He competed in and won many stereo competitions throughout the United States. He married the love of his life, Tonya Ann (Marsh) Castillo on October 4, 2006 in Abilene and they spend 15 wonderful years together. Joseph touched many lives and helped many people throughout his time here and will be sorely missed by all.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Tonya Castillo of Merkel; step-son: Blake Bernstein and wife Taylor of Hearst, TX; sister: Patricia Castillo of Abilene; brother: Randy Castillo and wife Tonya of Dallas; grandchildren: Harper and Brooks; and numerous other extended family members.

He was reunited in Heaven with his parents; three brothers: Frank, Danny and Michael Castillo; one great-uncle: Jimmy Guevera and one nephew: Tony Castillo.

Joseph’s wishes were to be cremated. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Starbuck Funeral Home and condolences to the family may be sent online at www.starbuckfuneralhome.com.
