Johnny Warren, of Tye, Texas, age 79, a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, departed his earthly home to join Jesus, his Lord and Savior, in his eternal home on May 13, 2026.
Johnny was born on September 1, 1946, to Harold and Catherine Adell Warren in Waco, Texas. He was raised in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964, Baylor University in 1968, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988. Johnny met the love of his life, Beverly, at Glorieta Baptist Assembly in 1969. They married the same year and celebrated 56 years of marriage on December 27, 2025.
Johnny served in many professions throughout his life. These professions are: Youth Minister and Minister to Senior Adults in Ashland, Kentucky; Minister of Youth and Recreation in Ada, Oklahoma; Minister of Recreation in Greenville, Texas; owning and managing Mimosa Village Mobile Home Park in Wichita Falls, Texas; Youth Minister and Minister of Education in Merkel, Texas (where he used his expertise to help build the Family Life Center); a special education teacher in Waco, Texas and Abilene, Texas; teacher for the Havasupai Indians in the Grand Canyon; and he ended his working career driving for “Johnny’s Jaunts.” Johnny was an active member of First Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas, for 34 years, where he helped with the TV ministry, served on various committees, and sang in the choir. He loved vacationing with his family, planning church ski trips, and travelling the world with Beverly in their retirement. He was a huge Baylor football fan and took many family members and friends to the games. Johnny was a servant of God. He loved his Lord, his wife, his children, his family,
his extended family and Baylor University.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Beverly; children: Jeremy (Jacinda), Jamey (Shelley), and Jodi (Chad); and grandchildren: Kylie, Joshua, Caleb, Rhiannon, Jackson, Johnna, Mark, Jake, and Annie; his sister, Judy; and many nephews and nieces. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Harold, his mother, Adell, his brother, Jimmy, his sister, Jere, and his grandson, Hunter.
There will be a service to celebrate his life on June 6, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Abilene Chapel. Johnny’s wishes were that his body be donated to the Texas Tech Medical School. If desired, in lieu of flowers, friends can make a memorial contribution.
