James "Jimmy" Masonheimer Obituary

James Stuart Masonheimer, 78, of Pottsville, TX, former resident of Trent, TX,  passed away on November 24, 2021 at his home.  He was also known as “Jimmy” or “Jimbo” or “Pa” to many friends and family.  At his request he will be cremated with arrangements by Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, TX. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Jimmy was born in 1943 in Ross, CA to James Miller Masonheimer and Margaret Emma Schmidt.  His family moved to Edinburg, TX where he had some of his fondest childhood memories. They moved to Willcox, AZ, where he graduated from high school and excelled in many sports.

He married Nelda Boyd, his high school sweetheart, on September 1, 1962 in Willcox and became a part of her extended Boyd family of 8 brothers and sisters. They lived in Willcox where he was a farmer. In 1970 they moved to Trent, TX.  He worked for U.S. Brass in Abilene for 28 years as a plating supervisor. After his retirement, he was called back to be a consultant for another 2 years at U.S. Brass. Later, he worked for the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation. In 2010, they moved to Pottsville, TX.

Jimmy and Nelda also shared a love for antiques (Our House/OH Antiques) and were well known in the Big Country and Central TX antique communities. He had an uncanny knack for bringing badly worn antique pieces back to their former glory. He was the ultimate “picker” and “fixer-upper”. He greatly enjoyed all sports and activities involving his children and grandchildren. Coaching Little League baseball and tennis were favorites of his. He and his wife were leaders at the Mulberry Canyon 4-H Club for many years and active members of the Merkel Riding Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Nancy Diana and Valerie Jill, and his in-laws John and Mary Boyd.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nelda; daughter Leslie Crouch and husband Mark; daughter Dee Dee Dobbs and husband Dib: daughter Luci Wilson and husband Cody; son Jamie Masonheimer and wife Kathi. Grandchildren:  Rachael (Scott), Aaron (Claire), Lauren (Cutter), Katherine, Kyler (Cody), Cole, Carter (Shania), Victoria, Bret, Grace, Anna, Zane, and Sydney.  Great grandchildren: Charlotte, Miranda, Cameron, Harper, Kennedy, Alice, Keegan, Lincoln, and a sweet baby girl on the way… He is also survived by several  nieces and nephews and many other Boyd relatives.
