Heidi Pack Obituary

Heidi Pack, of Abilene, formerly of Merkel, transitioned from her earthly to heavenly home after a very brief illness, on October 19, 2024, in Abilene, Texas.

Heidi was born in Wanne-Eickel, West Germany, to Karl and Ruth Eberle on July 27, 1945. She was welcomed into and cared for by the loving family of her “tante” Frau Friederike Werner, her Opa Johann Kapfer, brother Manfred, and sister Emtraud. Heidi adored her Opa who showered her with love.

Heidi began school in Niederwerrn and subsequently attended the Olympia-Morata-Schule in Schweinfurt. She graduated from the Städtische Berufsschule (Business Assistant School) in Schweinfurt, in 1963. She worked at Stam Fine Porcelain, China, and Silver Company and later as a dispatcher and manager of Heinisch “mini-car company” in Schweinfurt.

Shortly after Heidi met and married Robert Sidney (Bobby) Nobles, a US Army Corporal, in Schweinfurt, they came to the United States where the Nobles family instantly claimed her as one of their own, gaining her in-laws Nick & Marie Nobles, two sisters and a brother. After the tragic loss of Bobby, she met and married Ray Pack, in Merkel, joining the large, gregarious Pack family. Working hard to ensure her girls and grandsons were provided for, she worked in retail sales, lastly, for 25 years for Walls Industries eventually managing the Walls Outlet Stores in Merkel and Sweetwater. During those years, she was also a proud member of the Merkel Emergency Medical Service where she volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician. She proudly served the community of Merkel making many friends and memories. She began her second career with Taylor County, serving as a Juvenile Correctional Officer, where she touched the lives of many troubled youth and modeled how to love those kids despite their challenges. After her second retirement, Heidi worked for an estate sale company, fulfilling her love for antiques, collectables, and meeting the many people who shared that same passion.

Heidi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a fiercely loyal friend. She was incredibly selfless and sacrificed greatly to make her house a place of security and comfort for her family. Her love language was giving to those she loved and she enjoyed lavishing her family with gifts, especially at Christmas time. God gave her a love and empathy for animals. She had many pets that were all treated like part of her family, some of which she was given by friends, others she saved from the shelter, and even acquired from neighbors to ensure they were properly cared for. She even went so far as to drop dog houses off in people’s yards if they didn’t have one. She was also known to sneak food and water to animals who didn’t have any. Those who were fortunate enough to know her well lovingly testify that Heidi was a smart lady who was witty and had a great dry sense of humor.

Heidi was preceded in death by her father, Karl Eberle, mother Ruth Pomeroy, Opa Johann Kapfer, husband Bobby Nobles, Tante Frau Werner, sister Emtraud Shreiner, brother Manfred Werner, her father and mother-in-law Nick and Marie Nobles, and beloved son-in-law James Rowland.

Heidi is survived by her daughter Denise Castillo and husband, Hector of Early, daughter Debbie Rowland of Abilene, grandson Colt Palmer, wife Jaci and great-grandson, Huxley, of Wall, grandson Cade Palmer, wife Nicole and great-grandson Grayson of Trent, granddaughter Lauren Long, husband Jason and great-granddaughters Isla, Ava and Lottie of Houston, sister Carolynd Roberts and husband Delbert of Segovia, brother Mike Nobles and wife Angelina of Knickerbocker, sister Nell Anderson and husband Henry of Crane, brother, Greg Pomeroy and wife Kay of Hurst, sister, Dianne Strawbridge and husband Butch of Austin, sister, Sharon Pomeroy of Watauga, childhood friend Brigitte Harris of Owassa, OK, and special friend Paula King of Trent, along with many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
