Golda Marie Evers, 77, of Merkel, TX, passed away surrounded by her family on January 8, 2024 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Golda was born in Snyder, TX to two wonderful parents, James Eugine Autrey and Susie Marie Morris-Autrey. She graduated from Ira High School where she met lifelong friends through her enjoyment of playing basketball and running track. She met Edwin Evers in 1987 while working at the State School in the food service department. She worked in food service for 28 years and was a wonderful cook. She once fooled Ed into thinking she loved his homemade cinnamon rolls as a way to win his heart. They were married in Abilene, TX at the Grace Lutheran Church by her beloved brother Emmett on May 25, 1987. She was very involved in her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Merkel where she made numerous friends of faith.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother James and Susie Autrey, her brothers William and Emmett Autrey and sister-in-law Maggie Autrey and niece Vicki Dawn Autrey-Stehling.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Edwin Evers of Merkel; three children, Sharon Faglie and husband Brent of Merkel, Michael Riley and wife Trina of Clyde, Susan Evers of Omak, Washington; brother James Earl Autrey and wife Neva of Iredell, brother Ronney Autrey and wife Lindabeth of Snyder, sister Linda Martin and husband Bill of Granbury, sister-in-law Dean Autrey of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren, Cody Vickers, Clay Vickers, Jessika Henson, Christina Wright, Justin Riley, Tanner Riley, Trace Riley, Leon Kunz and Justen Kunz; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Golda will be carried by her beloved grandsons, Cody Vickers, Clay Vickers, Justin Riley, Tanner Riley and Trace Riley, along with her family friend Tim Page.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on January 17, 2024 in Merkel at First Baptist Church with Pastors Brian Simon and Ryan Henson officiating. Visitation will be January 16, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the general fund at First Baptist Church of Merkel.
