George Blankenship Obituary

George "Grumpy" Lee Blankenship, 66, of Noodle, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Noodle, Texas. Born in Abilene, Texas on September 27, 1958, George was the son of Leon and Mary Jo Blankenship. He grew up in Anson, where he graduated high school and began building the full and meaningful life for which he will always be remembered.

On June 18, 1999, George married the love of his life, Louise "Kat" Blankenship, in Hodges, Texas. Together they built a home filled with laughter, resilience, and deep love. George worked in the oil field for most of his life, where his work ethic and grit were matched only by his loyalty to those around him.

In addition to his time in the oil industry, George took a leap into the restaurant business as a part-owner of Kats and Cams in Merkel, Texas. The restaurant was open for eight years and served as another way George connected with his community.

George was best known for his generous spirit and his love of bringing people together. He hosted an annual July 4th fireworks and fish fry that became a beloved tradition for many. It was the highlight of his year, and he was constantly planning for how to make the next one even better.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Blankenship; sister, Mary Ann Blankenship; and son, Brian Shayne Fugate II.

He is survived by his loving wife, Louise “Kat” Blankenship; his children: Brandon Blankenship and wife Amanda; Courtney Holland and husband Trey; and Brent Blankenship and wife Amanda; his mother, Mary Jo Blankenship; his brothers: Steve Blankenship and wife Lee Anne; and Scott Blankenship; and his cherished grandchildren: Victory, Greysen, Little Brian, John John, Brogan, Reyvan, Bo, Hudson, and Madison.

A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Anson, TX, located at 1400 Commercial Ave, Anson, TX 79501.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Love and Care Ministries in Merkel, Texas — a cause close to George’s heart.

George "Grumpy" Blankenship leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, hospitality, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
