Gary (Brazell) Jarrett, 75, of Merkel, Texas, passed away on February 14th, 2026 in Abilene, Texas.
Gary was born on January 31, 1951 in Hornersville, Missouri. His parents, Hobert and Louise Brazell, moved to the Abilene area in 1963. It was there, at Lincoln Middle School, that he met his future wife, Cassie Foster. They married on May 26th, 1970 in Abilene, Texas marking the beginning of their 55 year marriage. Their journey together would see the birth of four children, good days and bad, and included adventures all over Texas and part of New Mexico. Cassie once joked that in 35 years they had lived in 39 different homes.
Though Gary had no formal education beyond school, he was a self-taught man who mastered every trade he set his mind to. Over the years, he worked in the oil field, owned small businesses, and served as a skilled mechanic for several companies. He was also a volunteer for the Tye Volunteer Fire Department in the 1970s. His strong work ethic and determination defined his entire lifetime, but his greatest joy came from his role as “PawPaw.” His family was his pride and joy, especially his grands and great-grands. He loved sharing his love of motorcycles and fishing with the next generation. He cherished every moment spent with them and would fiercely defend any of them when necessary. He was quick with a comeback and loved trying to startle everyone with his pranks.
Gary was preceded in death by: his parents Hobert and Louise Brazell; son Heth Jarrett; daughter-in-law Tracy Jarrett; son-in-law Clarence Tatum; sisters Vonda Dashman, Patty Davis, Connie Hershey, and Ada Marie Dacy; brother-in-law Richard; and nephew Kevin Dacy.
Gary is survived by: his wife Cassie Jarrett; 3 children David (Donna) Jarrett, Ada (Ryan Morris) Jarrett, and Micah (Monica) Jarrett; brothers-in-law Don Davis and Bob Dashman; step-sister Rebecca (David) Woodall; 14 grandchildren Kendalyn (Jakob) Shackleton, Rylie (Ashlee) Tatum, Canyon (Ashley Barnett) Jarrett, Jasper Morris, Autumn Jarrett, Amy (Kylynn Morris) Johnson, Malaki Morris, Logan Tatum, Dylan Tatum, Olivia Morris, Joshua (Itzell) Hernandez, Isabel Molina, Felix (Madison Gagnon) Jarrett, and Tristan Molina; 8 great-grandchildren Heston, Cason, Kane, Roman, Alistair, Creed, Ezra, and Valyria; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
