Emma Jean Cochran

Emma Jean Ely Cochran (Mom), 87, went to Heaven to join her, husband “Pop” and daughter Mary on Monday, March 29, 2021. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Starbuck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home. Mom, as she was known, was born January 2, 1934 in the community of Warren to Manton Herman and Hudora (Cowger) Ely. She married Gene Cochran June 5, 1952 in Tye, Texas. Mom was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mom loved spending time with her family. She graduated from Merkel High School. She spent numerous years cooking meals for the students of Noodle School. She was a very avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Mom is survived by three daughters Martha McLeod and husband Wayne Chiniche of Bakersfield, California, Faye Walker and husband Britt Tidmore of Merkel, and Clesta Boone and husband Galen of Merkel; two sons Steve Cochran and wife Jeanina of Merkel, and Brad Cochran and wife Bridget of Merkel; son-in-law Royce Myers of Merkel; 16 grandkids; 32 great grandkids; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene Cochran and daughter Mary Myers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Merkel Cemetery Association, 201 Edwards, Merkel, TX 79536. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hendrick Medical Center – North and Hendrick Hospice Care Center in Abilene.
