Obituary

Earmer Asher “E.A.” Chaney Jr, 88 years old, passed away September 11, 2022 in Abilene, Texas. He was born on July 15, 1934 in Reagan County to Earmer and Gladys Chaney.

E.A. was drafted into the Army in 1957 and served his country until 1964. He owned the Chaney Arena in San Angelo, Texas. E.A. started riding horses in parades and rodeos when he was 8 years old and continued his rodeo career until the age of 55. He spent the majority of his life teaching cowboys and cowgirls how to ride steers, bulls and bareback horses. His favorite bull he owned was “Danny”. He continued caring for his cows and dogs throughout his life and those interests kept him and Hazel occupied.

E.A. served as a Deacon in the Church of Christ in San Angelo for many years. He was a Christian man and enjoyed attending the Salt Branch Cowboy Church hearing Corey Smith preach since he witnessed Corey growing up as a young child. E.A. was known as a “hero” to many young men in his family and he prayed over his family.

E.A. was a loving man to his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Hazel Chaney, his three daughters: Rhonda Pollock and husband Tony of Abilene, Sandra Garrett and husband Buddy of Cross Plains, and Mitzi Chaney and husband Steve of Abilene. He had 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
