Dorothy Yvonne Brown Perkins Doan, age 85, of Mulberry Canyon, passed from this earth on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Dorothy was born 6 miles southeast of Anson in Jones County, to Claud Scott and Annie Mae (Lindsey) Brown, on October 10, 1937. She grew up mainly in Jones County, living on farms near Hollis Hill, Truby, Hawley, New Hope, Sunny Side, Stamford, and Noodle. For a short time, she lived near Denton Valley in Callahan County. On April 24, 1954, at the age of 16, Dorothy married the love of her life, Borden Emmett (Perk) Perkins, in Hawley. In May 1973, at the age of 35, Dorothy took the GED exam and passed with little to no preparation. On May 24, 1982, Dorothy was left a widow at age 44 when her husband Perk died in an accident. On December 4, 1987, she married Vaughn Doan. He died on December 30, 1989.

During her life, Dorothy worked for Foster Printing in Abilene, Timex in Abilene, Wylie Truckstop in Merkel, and sewed for the public. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She drove a tractor, did fence work, hauled hay, and worked cattle.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Ronny Scott Brown and Don Brown, and one sister: Janell Markley.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Velma Hixon and her husband Ray of Denton, and her son John Perkins and wife Beth of Merkel. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Borden Parks and wife Sherra of Tolleson, AZ, Cory Parks of Glendale, AZ, Taylor Hixon of Grand Junction, CO, Trey Hixon of Salem, OR, and Thomas Perkins of Fort Worth. She also has 3 great-grandchildren: Emma Parks, Wyatt Parks, and Brooklyn Parks. Other survivors include 3 sisters: Joan Perry, Betty Hollis, and Joyce Cochran, all of Abilene; 2 brothers: Charlie Brown of Hawley and Terry Brown of Abilene. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a member of the Trent Church of Christ.

A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Merkel, TX. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Starbuck Funeral Home.

The family of Dorothy extend our sincerest thanks to Sam, Brittany, Reamy, and Ruby Neaton for the many years that they helped her by delivering groceries, delivering medication, and taking her to her doctor appointments.
