Don Cavender, Sr.

Don Barkley Cavender, Sr. passed away in Abilene on Sunday, June 13, 2021. He was born December 27, 1946 to Wilson and Josephine (Kasper) Cavender in Chicago, Illinois. Don Enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June 1965, reaching the rank of MSgt and retiring after 24 years in August 1989. Don married Mary Costa on August 8, 1970. They had two children; Janett and Don, Jr. He loved camping and fishing. He also enjoyed working with wood. He made frames for Mary’s sewing projects. He also made many bookcases and other home wood projects. Don is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Janett; grandsons Timothy Cavender, William Cooley, and Derrick Becker; granddaughters Caylin and Arizona Cooley and Skyler Cavender; and one sister Jo Ann Lanners of Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilson and Josephine (Kasper) Cavender; his son Don Cavender, Jr.; and his brother James Cavender. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday June 16, 2021 at Starbuck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00Pm Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
