With love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Charlotte “Charlie” Ruth Chambers Griffin, age 66, of Trent, Texas, who departed this life on August 3, 2025. Charlie was born on May 14, 1959, in Bradenton, Florida. She was the beloved daughter of William G. Chambers, Sr. and Barbara L. Chambers.
Charlie lived with quiet strength and boundless compassion, toughing lives with her kindness and unwavering support. She found joy in the simple things: a good book, a warm cup of coffee, and time spent with those she loved.
She was a beloved member of the Merkel VFW Auxiliary #5683, fondly remembered for her enthusiastic support of many community efforts. Charlie especially loved shopping for gifts for children during the Angel Tree project and was a steady presence and willing contributor toward fundraising benefits for individuals or families facing medical challenges or recovering from house fires. Her homemade desserts were a highlight at countless events, always made with love and shared joy. Charlie delighted in contributing and handing out candy to local children at trunk-or-treat, always greeting them with a warm smile and generous spirit that made every child feel special. Charlie loved her time with friends at the VFW, visiting, laughing and playing shuffleboard. Her absence will be felt by many, but her spirit will every be present in our hearts.
Beyond her community service, Charlie found joy in creative work alongside her husband. She and her husband, Dale Lewis, also contributed their time and talents by remodeling homes and restoring furniture, bringing beauty and care into every space they touched.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Mullins and Stephen Brady; her brothers, Robert B. Chambers (Mary), Scott A. Chambers (Aleta), and William G. Chambers, Jr.; her sister, Corinne C. Cope (Russell); and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Lewis, whose memory she carried with love and devotion.
Though she has left this earthly life, Charlie’s spirit remains woven into the hearts of those she loved. Her memory will be cherished, her stories retold, and her love carried forward by all who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet courage that will continue to inspire generations.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Charlie’s home, 2050 FM 1085, Trent, Texas, on August 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. The Merkel VFW Auxiliary will host a luncheon immediately, following the Celebration of Life at Charlie’s post home at 125 CR 396, Merkel, Tx. All who knew and loved her are welcome to gather in remembrance and gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Merkel VFW Auxiliary #5683 to P.O. Box 309, Merkel, TX 79536-continuing the mission Charlie held close to her heart.
Charlie built more than just homes-she built community, comfort, and connection. Her legacy left behind is one of love, friendship, compassion, giving and joy in the simple things!
