It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Charles “Clay” Smith (Abilene, Texas), who passed away at the age of 54, on June 12, 2023.
Clay was born in Perryton, Texas to Rochell and Sue Smith. He graduated from Gruver High School and attended West Texas University. He moved to Merkel, TX in 1989 before locating to Abilene, TX, where he lived for almost 30 years.
Clay was an adored father, brother, and uncle. He worked for McCarty Hall and Wes-T-Go for a number of years. He enjoyed raising his son, Blake, and being a part of his sporting events growing up. Clay was known as the harmony and peacemaker of the Smith family, always making sure everyone was included and loved.
Clay is preceded in death by his parents, Rochell and Sue Smith; and his sister, Lucy Smith Boggs. He is survived by his son Blake Smith; sister Barbara Buntin and her husband Steve, of Merkel, Texas, sister Jessie Gheen and her husband Rickie of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and sister Rochelle “Cissy” Marshall and her husband, Shon of Tye, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Merkel Church of Christ on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11AM. Bryce Buntin and Rhett Buntin will officiate. Graveside to follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Burden, Michael Jackson, Bryce Buntin, Rhett Buntin, Kenny Gammon, and Blake Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hendrick Hospice or your favorite charity.
