Billye Sandra Patterson Townsend

Billye Sandra Patterson Townsend of Merkel, TX age 84 died July 19, 2021 at her home. She was the daughter of Virgil Patterson and Reta Akin Patterson. Her sister Bertha was her forever mentor and dearest friend. Sandra taught school at Holding Institute, A Methodist mission school, Trent, Winters, and Merkel. After retirement she kept very busy with her true love, that of running her farm and ranches south of Merkel with her son Gene William. Gene has a son Gene, Jr. and a daughter Alisha. Gene has two grandsons Gene III and Nolan and granddaughter Cannon. Her son John IV, has three children, Deborah, John V, and Jeremiah. John has a granddaughter Butterfly. Sandra’s forever friend is her daughter Cassie who has two children Jadi and Jimmy who has a son Luke, and three daughters Laney, Lottie and Landri. Sandra belonged to several academic and educational organizations, but her true love was remembering her some 3000 students. She always strived to give each one the same love, compassion, and sense of worth. Thus she loved this creed: A few years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. There will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make memorial contributions to the Abilene Animal Shelter, the Reta Patterson scholarship at McMurry University, or the charity of your choice.
