Billy Hamner Obituary

Billy Wayne Hamner, a lifelong resident of Trent, Texas, passed away on May 29, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on January 5, 1932, in Trent, he was the son of Homer Clark Hamner and Era
Smith Hamner.
Billy Wayne dedicated his life to serving his community and his country, leaving an unforgettable mark on the town he loved. A proud veteran, he served two years in the U.S. Army and six years in the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
His commitment to service continued through his life, where he held numerous leadership roles in Trent. He served nine years on the Trent City Council, including eight years as Mayor, and eight years as Fire Chief. Billy Wayne was also a dedicated member of the Trent School Board for twelve years, the Trent ISD Equalization Board for three years, and the Farmer's Home Administration Board for nine years. Additionally, he contributed many years of service to the Trent Cemetery Board.
Billy Wayne was known for going out of his way to help people, friends and strangers alike. He was truly one of the good guys, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. He loved his family deeply, was loyal, compassionate and a hard worker; truly one of a kind.
Beyond his civic duties, Billy Wayne was a successful farmer and rancher, working the land he cherished. He was a faithful member of the Trent Church of Christ, where he served with the other men to make a difference and an impact for the Lord.
Billy Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the lake, and traveling. He was always happy to be able to get away and spend time with his friends and family.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Betty Sue Hamner; their infant daughter, Troy Francis; and their grandson, Shawn Brian Toombs. He is survived by his daughters, Tina Toombs of Merkel and Teri Norwood and her husband, Chris, of Longview; grandchildren Joshua Swain and his wife, Jackie; Dillon Swain and his wife, Courtney; Alicia Toombs and her wife, Hellen Hale; great-grandchildren Ryder, Avonlea, Amelia, Maggie, and Maebri, dear friend, Diana Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chris Norwood, Joshua Swain, Ryder Swain, Dillon Swain, Alicia Toombs and Gary Hamner.
A memorial service celebrating Billy's life will be held at the Trent Church of Christ on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Trent Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
Billy Wayne Hamner's legacy of service, faith, and love for his family and community will continue to inspire all who knew him.
