Beverly Ann Butman was born at the Sadler Clinic in Merkel, Texas to Louis and Pauline Butman on July 27, 1946. Beverly grew up on the family ranch in Mulberry Canyon and attended Merkel schools and graduating in 1964. She attended Abilene Christian College the summer before enrolling in York College. In 1966 she graduated from York earning high honors. Then it was off to Pepperdine College (when it was in Watts not Malibu) where she graduated cum laude in 1968 with a B.A. degree in Journalism. Beverly immediately began her lifelong career in the newspaper business. First working for the Pasadena Star-News, followed by the Boulder Daily Camera, and then the Abilene Reporter News.
Besides journalism she was known for her love of conspiracy theories, horses, dogs, family, friends and of course Jesus. She died peacefully in her sleep on June 15, 2023. Beverly is survived by her brother Steve and his wife Wilma, niece Elizabeth Brummett her husband Timothy, and their son Benjamin, numerous cousins, and friends.
The family plans to scatter Beverly’s ashes on the ranch during a private family funeral.
