Betty Sargent

Betty Lou Sargent, 76, of Merkel passed away February 20, 2021 in Merkel surrounded by her family. She was born in Rocksprings, Texas on December 21, 1944 to L.A. and Willie Sargent. Betty lived in Winters, Texas for many years before moving to Merkel over 36 years ago. She worked for Merkel ISD for over 20 years before her retirement. After she retired she worked for Home Health Care. Betty is survived by her children James New and wife Lois of Tuscola, Billy New and wife Kim of Merkel, Richard New and wife Betty of Tuscola, Laurie Morton and husband Farion of Brady, and Chenoa Flores of San Angelo; siblings Alvin “Bud” Sargent of Tuscola, John “Butch” Sargent of Abilene, and Etta Hargrove of Stamford; 17 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Andy Lee New, her parents and her great great granddaughter Taylynn Compton. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Merkel.
