Barbara Hopkins Obituary

Barbara Ann Hopkins was born on October 4,1943 at Stamford Sanitarium, Stamford, TX to Mr. and Mrs. Frank David McFarland (Mother - Rachel Annie Fitzgerald). She is preceded in death by her father and mother, her sister Mary Fowler, her husband Pete Hopkins and her ex-husband Bill Mansfield. She is survived by her brothers, Mike and Mark Chambers, her sisters, Marilyn Payne and Mickey Sparks.

She has four children; Veino Hopkins, Juno Williamson, Niko Mansfield and Rachel Abbott, whom she loved very much. She has multiple cousins, nieces and nephews consisting of Shannon Cochran and Stacey Payne, along with multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. She never missed a chance to reflect about her wonderful family and bragged about them endlessly.

Barbara lived a very hard-working life as she married Pete Hopkins (father of Veino and Juno) and ventured into the trucking business. She and her husband Pete worked hard together, enjoying traveling, their love of each other and spending time with their children. Pete passed away too soon in 1973, dying of cancer.

Barbara then married William Daniel (Bill) Mansfield in 1973.  She and Bill became proud parents to Niko and Rachel who joined Veino and Juno to create a brood of adventurous children who never ceased to surprise their parents in so many ways.

Barbara took great pride in working hard throughout her life, holding down hard labor jobs to provide for her children. She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood, her endless travels, and reminiscing stories of her children as they grew up.

Barbara finally made Merkel her home where she made many friends, whom she cherished and loved dearly. One of her favorite things to do was to “bee bop” around Merkel in her electric wheelchair with her dog “Sweet Pea” visiting the local businesses and her friends. She was a “Spit Fire”, spicy lady who enjoyed her old classic country music tunes, laughing and spending time with her family and friends, along with eating some good “down home” country cookin’. She never missed a chance to see a movie, festival, parade or any celebratory event. Her love of life, family and friends was infectious. She will be missed dearly by her family, her friends and the little town of Merkel, TX.
