Arlan Leroy Harris, 91, of Alexander, Arkansas, passed away on June 26, 2025, in Alexander, Arkansas.
Arlan was born in Merkel, Texas, to Bert Hallie and Nettie Glen (Redding) Harris on June 21, 1934. He attended Merkel Schools and would have graduated from Merkel High School in 1954 but suffered an injury from a horse falling on him and was unable to attend school for a time. He earned his G.E.D. during his time in the U.S. Army.
He married Bobbye Geraldine (Jerry) Allison on January 15, 1955, in Abilene, Texas, and they had three children together. This marriage ended in 1971, and he later married Pamela Jean Miller on January 1, 1993.
He worked as a supervisor with Timex Corporation for a number of years. In the 1960s, he became self-employed. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1958, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. He was involved in the Mason and Shriner organizations, serving as Grand Potentate of the Scimitar Shrine in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Arlan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leon Burton Harris, a sister, Wanda Jane (Harris) Mashburn, and his daughter, Pamela Leigh (Harris) Dobbs.
Arlan is survived by his wife, Pamela Harris of Bryant, Arkansas; son, Steve Harris and wife, Brenda, of Alexander, Arkansas; son, Joel Harris, Sr. and wife, Patti, of Tye, Texas; his brother, Dillard Harris of Bandera, Texas; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Luke Harris, Josh Harris, Joel Harris, Jr., Brandon Dobbs, Matthew Dobbs, and Taylor Dobbs.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, Texas.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Stith Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
