Ann Scott

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Elizabeth Ann Scott, 82, of Merkel, TX. Ann got to meet Jesus face-to-face on Saturday, May 27, 2023. She will be remembered by her humble spirit, servant’s heart, and her love for her family. 

Ann was born in Merkel to Carroll “Skip” and Helen Benson on November 10, 1940. She graduated from Merkel High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University, and her master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She married Bill Scott on February 23, 1963, in Merkel. Ann was a blessing to Austin ISD where she was a teacher for over 30 years. After moving back to Merkel, she was an active member of the Merkel Church of Christ, the Merkel Birthday Club, and enjoyed visiting with those at the Merkel Nursing Home. Her legacy lives on in her family and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Scott, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Skip Benson, and her brother, Bob Benson. 

Ann is survived by her daughter, Suzanne McGuire and son-in-law, Russell, of Merkel, her sister-in-law, Jannie Benson of Hale Center, grandchildren, Jessica McGuire of Merkel, Shawna Shilts of Sugarland, Robert McGuire of Colorado City, and several great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, TX.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Rosehill Cemetery in Merkel, TX, with Lou David Allen of the Merkel Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Family Funeral Home.
